Safety Third

Opening sparkling wine can be a difficult and sometimes traumatic experience. More people get hurt at weddings via poor sparkling wine opening than get attacked by sharks, so don’t mess with the fireworks, and hold on to that cork tight this NY Eve, my thirsty friends!

ALWAYS point the cork away from people, pets, windows, mirrors, breakable things and such that you value and don’t want to hurt. If you’re trying to make a point, you can aim at that person, just go above their head (you didn’t hear it here though!). If you’re buzzed and want to saber a lukewarm bottle of bubbly, just don’t. Sabering is fun and festive, and looks awesome, but can go really wrong really quick, so my suggestion is to avoid it. If you really want to do it, make sure that the bottle is ice-cold and you are outside. Mind the very sharp edge the process creates too!

Below you will find a solid way to open a bottle of sparkling wine. Remember, the cooler the wine, the easier it is. 45º angle will minimize spillage!
